Unlocking a cell phone to work at another company?

So I want to buy the HTC Touch Pro2, which is locked to tmobile when you leave. So I was wondering what do I need to unlock it. I am planning to pay the total purchase price thereof. So I need to take it to att and pay them to unlock it? or how can I do to unlock it?
